Stay fit this summer with group exercise classes

REC Sports is offering several group exercise classes this summer to help keep you fit and in shape. Instructors Trent Tangen, Ashley Soliday, and Erin Lamboi will offer classes, which are appropriate for any skill level. The summer schedule begins on Monday, May 23 and runs through August 12, 2011.

Erin Lamboi will teach a Cardio Kick class Mondays at 5 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. Cardio Kick is backed by high-energy music, this workout incorporates a combination of kicks, punches, elbows, and knees to work all your major muscle groups while providing excellent cardiovascular conditioning. Cardio Kick will not only help you reach your fitness goals, it is a perfect way to release toxic stress and tension!

Lamboi will offer a Zumba class, following Cardio Kick, Mondays at 6 p.m. Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music dance themes that creates a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness routine! The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

On Tuesdays, Ashley Soliday will teach an Absolute Abs class at 5 p.m. If you enjoyed 6 Pack Attack or Get on the Ball, this class is for you! A 50-minute core marathon that will help you discover that firm core you have been dreaming of.

Soliday will also teach a Yogalates class at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and at noon on Wednesdays. Yogalates is a fine mix of Yoga and Pilates that dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels, and performs. It improves your mental and physical well being, increases flexibility, and strengthens muscles. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen.

Trent Tangen will teach Interval Cross Training at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The class offers a creative mix of cardio, core, balance and strength drills that will leave you energized and excited for more. This class will utilize a variety of equipment including stability balls, BOSU balls, agility ladders, medicine balls, kettlebells, resistance bands, and anything else we can get our hands on.

Tangen will focus specifically on the Kettlebell workout at 5 p.m. on Thursdays. Kettlebells are a new trend in total body fitness. Kettlebells is an interval style workout that uses forceful but controlled momentum that will increase strength, cardiovascular endurance, power, flexibility, balance, and core strength. All participants must complete a 30-minute kettlebell orientation class prior to attending the kettlebell group exercise class.

All group exercise classes are suitable for all fitness levels and can be adapted to meet your personal needs. If you have any questions concerning group exercise classes please contact Trent Tangen, Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness at 217-206-7103.
